This Earth Month, we are asking you to pledge to always use a reusable shopping bag. Macerich shopping centers have partnered with One Tree Planted this April to fund reforestation and urban shade projects across the United States for every pledge made. We can do this together! About One Tree Planted

Our Earth Month partner, One Tree Planted, is a nonprofit devoted to planting trees in both open spaces and urban areas. They also do educational outreach to teach communities about the importance of trees and motivate the next generation to do something positive for the environment. Trees are such an essential part of restoring nature and biodiversity, so help us help One Tree Planted plant more of them!

Shop Apple Watch, their first carbon neutral product! Apple will buy back or recycle old Apple devices in store. Items are thoroughly inspected, and components are either reused or recycled in an environmentally responsible way. Apple has been carbon neutral since 2020, by 2030 all their products will be too.

Cotton On

All new denim is made with at least 20% recycled cotton, and 41% of products have a sustainable attribute. They aim to have 100% of products contain a sustainable attribute by 2030! Bring your own bag; they discontinued all single-use plastic bags in 2019.

DICK’S Sporting Goods

Say goodbye to single-use plastic bags as DICK’S works to rid them from their stores and systems by 2025.  They now adhere to the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® certification within their building design strategies already implemented at their distribution center in Goodyear, AZ, and customer service center in Pittsburgh, PA.


By 2026, Express aims to conserve 50 million gallons of water, sustainably source 20% of fabrics, and have 75% of their denim made with conscious materials.

Foot Locker

A retail partner of Soles4Souls, a non-profit, distributes new and used shoes to those in need. Look for periodic donation drives to keep shoes out of landfills and do good simultaneously!  In store, look for sustainable options from adidas and Nike.

GUESS – One Tree Planted Supporter

GUESS Eco denim contains at least 20% environmentally preferred materials and uses production methods with reduced environmental impact. GUESS Eco non-denim products contain 20% -100% environmentally preferred materials that are recycled, organic and innovative. In partnership with One Tree Planted, GUESS planted 5,415 trees in 2023 on behalf of all North American corporate and retail employees.

Recycle your clothing with H&M! Bring any unwanted clothes or textiles by any brand and in any condition to one of our stores. Hand in your bag of old clothes at the register and receive a thank-you coupon to use toward your next purchase. Easy! Once you’ve dropped off your previously loved fashion in one of our garment collecting boxes, our business partner takes over. It empties the boxes and sorts the contents into three categories: rewear, reuse, and recycle.


The future of fashion is circular when you clean out your closet and earn a 10% Hollister credit through their partnership with ThredUp.


Made-to-order clothing is a much more efficient and sustainable model than ready-to-wear clothing for one very important reason. When creating garments that are custom-made for each individual, Indochino eliminates the production of surplus items that are disposed of at the end of a season if they're not purchased. In the rare event that there are surplus items, they take special care to ensure they’re donated to local charities.

A portion of all Johnny Was Active Collection sales are donated to Planet Bee Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to educating children and adults about bee conservation.

Johnston & Murphy is partnering with Soles4Souls to repurpose gently used footwear and donate new shoes to those in need. Drop off a pair of adult or child shoes to any Johnston & Murphy store location. Journeys/Journeys Kids

In-store upgrades to digital media players keep 14,000 DVDs out of landfills annually! Look for new 100% recycled shopping bags in store.

Kay Jewelers

Extend the life of your jewelry with Kay’s repair & maintenance services, or trade it in for something new! Kay’s parent company is a founding member of the Responsible Jewelry Council, ensuring an ethically sourced supply chain.


94% of Kiehl’s products are manufactured in plants using renewable energy. They have collected over 7 million empty products through their recycling program in the US and aim to collect 5 million more! Return your empty Kiehl’s bottles to a retail store and earn ten reward points per container!

L’Occitane – One Tree Planted Supporter

Check out the newly available refill stations in-store. Buy or bring in a L’Occitane Forever bottle. Your beauty advisor will disinfect and fill the bottle. Then, check out, and you are done! Recycle other packages through their partnership with Terracycle. The Fondation L’Occitane is a proud partner of One Tree Planted.


Donate gently used prescription or non-prescription eyewear to help another person in the world see more clearly through the OneSight program - a family of charitable vision care programs dedicated to improving vision through outreach, research and education.

Louis Vuitton

Client Care & Repair workshops around the world ensure that all Louis Vuitton products can last a lifetime and even be passed from generation to generation. The possibility of future reparations to prolong an item’s lifespan is considered from the very first step of designing. To this end, workshops anticipate the need to preserve spare parts, which, when necessary, are carefully used to repair items without using new materials, reducing the need for additional raw materials. Bring your empty fragrance bottle to select locations to refill at the proprietary fragrance fountain.


Since 2018, Lovesac has repurposed 180+ million plastic bottles from the waste stream into Designed For Life furniture. Here's how: recycled bottles are collected and cleaned. Then, they are chopped and melted into chips that are spun into sustainable Repreve upholstery fabric. Sactionals are designed to be maintainable, upgradeable, and are guaranteed for life.

lululemon – One Tree Planted Supporter

Round up any lululemon gear that you’re ready to part with. Make sure to check that each item is in good condition and eligible for trade-in. Once your gear is reviewed, you'll immediately receive an e-gift card for eligible items. E-gift cards are redeemable at your lululemon store and on Thanks to your trade-ins, lululemon kept 127,450 pounds of gear in action.

If you collect five Lush containers (empty and clean, of course), you can return them to the shop for a free fresh face mask. They take your old pots back and have them broken down and remolded into new pots as part of our closed-recycling loop. In fact, it happens locally in North America, by a company that’s close to their factories and that provides full transparency to the recycled materials.


Return your clean, empty products to a participating M·A·C counter* in-store If they can be recycled, they’ll be shredded, washed, re-pelletized and recycled into the production of new materials – or, in some places, they’ll become a new M·A·C product The packaging that cannot be recycled will be converted into energy.

Carbon neutral Warby Parker believes in doing good for the planet and people; they have donated over 13 million pairs of glasses to people in need around the globe!

White House Black Market

WHBM’s parent company, Chicos FAS, is making it a priority to introduce fabrics made with more mindfully produced and sustainably sourced raw materials into their designs! In 2022 they introduced 36 new Mindful Fabrics for a total of 98 Mindful Fabrics in their collections.


Zara phased out single-use plastic to customers in 2023 and collects in-store hangers and tags – reusing or transforming them into other items. All plastic bags have been phased out and they are promoting the use of reusable shopping bags while using 100% of the income from paper bags sales for environmental projects. Bring in your used clothing, footwear, and accessories to be recycled or reused.



Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. is cultivating a better world by serving responsibly sourced, classically-cooked, real food with wholesome ingredients without artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. In 2022, Chipotle purchased: 22 million pounds of organic and transitional produce, 36 million pounds of local produce, and 232 million pounds of animal welfare certified pork, chicken, and beef..

Panda Express

Panda Restaurant Group understands that the future of their restaurants can only be as bright as the planet on which they reside, so they’re reducing their carbon footprint and use of natural resources through several efforts including commercially compostable packaging, oil recycling and energy-efficient buildings whenever and wherever possible.

Shake Shack

Shake Shack takes pride in sourcing premium ingredients from like-minded ranchers, farmers, and supply partners—using real, premium ingredients like 100% antibiotic- and hormone-free proteins (beef, chicken, and pork) that are always vegetarian-fed, humanely raised, and source verified, plus raised and harvested in the USA. They continue to increase our investment in regeneratively farmed beef. All buns are non-GMO, and their vanilla and chocolate frozen custard recipes use only real sugar (no high-fructose corn syrup) and milk from dairy farmers who pledge not to use artificial growth hormones.



Starbucks is working towards a goal of all cups being reusable or compostable by 2030. To achieve this goal, you can now get a “for here” cup at locations with café seating, refill your own reusable cup (including mobile orders), or use a one-time-use cup engineered to be constructed of more recycled materials and less plastic.
